Welcome back to another newsletter. As always, the format is simple:
- Ideas I’m thinking about
- Resources that I’m finding valuable
- The latest from me
Let’s get into it.
Ideas
Every challenge just requires creativity. Being able to come up with creative solutions is a superpower in any area of life, whether it be entrepreneurship, business, finances, lifestyle or relationships.
When something isn’t working, add a system to it. Once that system is added, keep improving that system until it gets you the intended result. And when you want even better results? Improving the systems even further. Repeat, forever.
Your vision may take longer than expected, but no matter what, keep executing and working towards it for as long as it takes.
Once you get good at something, it’s easy to put in the work. Far more challenging, however, is to do the thing when you’re new, not very good at it and lack any form of system. But in order to develop, you have to keep at it anyway. The skills and systems will come from consistent reps. For me, I’ve procrastinated on editing the photographs from all the way back to when I got a camera in the summer of 2021. Lightroom was overwhelming and I felt like such a dumbass, but I decided to finally tackle it this week. It was challenging for a minute, but it’s now becoming easier and easier. My skills and improving, my systems are becoming more dialled, and this is now becoming an activity that I’m actually having fun with.
Half the battle of good photography is composition. To keep things simple, focus either on rule of thirds or keeping your frame properly centered and balanced, and your photos will instantly look more aesthetic.
I really wish that I didn’t have to ever think or talk about politics again. I wish I could focus exclusively on creativity and business and completely put my head in the sand. But unfortunately, if there aren’t people like you and me who are actively researching the real truth and sharing their findings to help spread truth, this world is headed to a dark place.
When the world is upside down, flip things around to discover what’s really going on.
#StandWithUkraine is the new black square. It’s the latest virtue-signal from people who don’t invest a little bit of extra time to research what they’re actually supporting. And how well did that turn out with BLM?
Just because the world is living one way, doesn’t mean you need to follow suit. It feels like the whole world is out and about again, as my fellow unvaccinated Canadians rejoin society again. But honestly, I don’t care to participate all that much. I’d rather continue creating and working towards my vision because that’s what brings me the most joy.
Fight for something outside of yourself. Remember how much I’ve opposed all of the mandates and restrictions with COVID (which have aged like fine wine) and people continue to call me a piece of shit for this? Well, I wasn’t doing it for myself. I was doing it for all of you. My lifestyle barely changes with or without mandates. I was speaking up so we could all have freedom of choice. But as a focused person who spends most of their time at home engrossed in learning & creating — you receive more of the benefits than I do.
Resources
Tim Dillon on JRE (#1752). I just recently got into Tim Dillon’s comedy and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it as an escape. Funny as hell, but also has good perspectives, too.
Automatic time-lapse tutorial by London Viewpoints. In the past week, I’ve been going hard on time-lapses and I’ve been blown away at how good the results have been by using automatic exposure and literally walking away to go do other things. That’s usually a huge no-no, where photographers usually swear by standing around for hours, manually adjusting the lighting on the shots to get the perfect results. But eager to experiment, I tried this simple technique after watching this tutorial and I’ve been blown away at how good the results are. Also, cannot believe I was shooting time-lapses in video format all of this time. Interval shooting with photos is 100% the move now due to all the adjustments, manipulations and fixes that you can make in post-production.
StitchPics. Do you ever have screenshots or web pages that are too long for your phone screen and end up being multiple images? Well, with this app, you can automatically stitch them all together and create 1 large and effective image without any watermark or overbearing ads as I write this. I’ve been looking for a simple app like this for such a long time, and I’m so glad I found this. Such an incredibly useful app.
World Economic Forum (WEF). If you don’t know who this organization is, take the time to educate yourself. This used to be a conspiracy theory, but it’s actually just straight-up factual and hidden in plain sight (you know, like everything else that seems to have been labelled conspiracy over the last few years). I find it interesting that the most tyrannical leaders in our world also happen to be members of this organization. In the upcoming elections this year, I hope people realize it’s time to vote out anyone who is aligned with this deeply corrupt organization.
The latest
Made some design changes to the personal website which I’m pleased about. We went even more dark mode because that’s the aesthetic I’m obsessed with recently, which was heavily inspired by Notion’s recent dark mode changes.
No other content this week but I’m highly dialled right now with creation and I’ve got sooooo much content coming soon, especially on social media with @joshmoxey, @joshmoxeycreations and @morejoshmoxey.
That’s all for now. Until next week, be well.
Much love,
—Josh
