Remembrance day.
A day to remember those who gave their lives in the pursuit of liberty and the desire for continued freedom. We pay tribute to the soldiers who fought and continue to fight for the freedom that we can so easily take for granted on a day-to-day basis.
Fathers, brothers, mothers and sisters from different walks of life, with different views and different values — all who came together to serve their people and fight as one to protect their country.
As they put their lives on the line, blood was shed and lives were taken — all so that we could live in the most peaceful, fortunate and incredible era of all time, which is filled with a level of freedom and abundance that is hard to fully grasp until you go to other places of the world or study other periods of time.
In years past, I’m not sure I properly recognized what these soldiers had achieved and how their impact ripples throughout time. But after learning more and more about history and watching the freedoms be progressively stripped away that these same soldiers fought for — this day now hits much deeper.
Knowing full well they wouldn’t be able to experience the day-to-day blessings, opportunities, freedoms and riches that we would, they went to battle for us anyways. And for that, a moment of silence once a year isn’t enough.
To those who put their lives on the line so that we may experience the rich quality of life that we all do, we must pay our respects through action each and every day.
We must constantly remind ourselves how incredibly fortunate we are, to capitalize on all of the greatness that surrounded us, and to stand up to anyone who dare try to take it away — otherwise, their sacrifice was for nothing.
Thank you to everyone over the years who have served and given their lives protecting this country so that I could wake up to an abundance of freedom, capitalize on the limitless opportunities, and go to bed with peace of mind.
I will continue to not only remember, but also honour you through action.
